Vishwa Sutra Brings Indian Handlooms to Global Runway at 61st Femina Miss India 2026
Vishwa Sutra – Weaves of India for the World featured 30 state handloom weaves reimagined with global designs at the 61st Femina Miss India 2026 in Bhubaneswar, promoting India's textile heritage and artisan livelihoods.
Initiative led by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, in collaboration with designer Vaishali S, the showcase featured all 30 State Winners, each representing a unique handloom tradition from across the country.
Each ensemble narrated a distinct story, reinterpreting India’s traditional weaves through contemporary silhouettes inspired by global cultures. The collection created a powerful dialogue between heritage and modern design, demonstrating the versatility, relevance and global appeal of Indian handlooms.
Through its association with the Femina Miss India pageant, “Vishwa Sutra” brought India’s handloom legacy to a wide and aspirational audience, positioning Indian handlooms within the global fashion conversation.
By presenting handwoven textiles on a high-visibility platform, the initiative celebrated the artistry of India’s weavers while reinforcing the importance of preserving and promoting the country’s rich craft traditions in a modern context.
